Capt Tom and Kenny were excellent. Tom helped me understand the concepts and the how to’s when using and operating a tug. Would highly recommend this class to anybody who needs a TOAR.

Captain Tom was a very good instructor. Scheduling my assessment was very simple and Captain Tom gave very simple instructions on how to prepare. I drove up from NC and stayed next door in a hotel. The next morning walked right in started the Pre Assessment boat handling course, Captain Tom was able to arrange the simulation to my needs, wants, and how my company does certain jobs. We practiced light boat, in the notch, on the hip, docking, and un docking, Captain Tom also has other simulators such as Z-DRIVE training and maneuvering. After that we took a break and then knocked out the TOAR assessments. One thing I noticed was how well their simulator and technology was, very well maintained, clean, organized, and running smoothly. I was finished with the tour around 1300 and back to NC by 1 AM.

Top notch Near Coastal TOAR Class...CAPTAIN Tom Rooney displays his 42+ years of knowledge in a very well understandable manner...if you are looking for a near coastal TOAR or even Z drive tractor tug training via simulator , then do NOT pass these courses up at USMRC..

Capt. Tom and his coworkers were very helpful in teaching and helping me understand what goes into working on a tug. Having never worked on a wire boat before, they explained the functions and uses of the vessel along with the barge so that I could understand the concepts and visualize what I needed to do in the exercises. I would highly recommend this course for anyone who is interested in starting on tugs or wants to further their knowledge of handling and tug operations.

Completed my Towing Officer Assessments at Boston Tugs with captain Tom Rooney, who was there to meet soon as I walked in the front door… right away he proceeded to take care of business giving a tour of the facility, I’m happy with my decision of coming here..Captain Tom shared his decades of knowledge at a state of art facility!! There was also a lot of information from Tom's own experience running tugboats that I found to be very useful. I have suggested Tom Rooney's class to a number of mariner's, as it can be hard to get the TOAR signed off on a working boat.
